Algebra Suicide – Feminine Squared LP+DVD

The first installment of our Americana Underground trilogy comes from windy city of Chicago circa 1982-1986. Meet the duo Algebra Suicide and the vinyl compilation “Feminine Squared” due June 4th For the first time ever, Dark Entries is including a bonus DVD with each LP featuring the second ever Algebra Suicide concert from 1984! Algebra Suicide was the married couple Lydia Tomkiw (lyrics/vocals) and Don Hedeker (guitars/keyboards). They formed in Chicago in 1982, and their first four song EP, “True Romance At The World’s Fair”, was self-released that year. It featured a 60′s Vox Guitar Organ, a precursor to the synthesizer guitar, and a Multivox Rhythm Ace drum machine. In 1984 they released a second 4 song EP, “An Explanation For That Flock Of Crows”, ditching the guitar organ but adding the Casiotone MT-40. Q4U – Q1 Deluxe Edition 1980-1983 LP

The final part in the Nordic trio of female fronted re-issues for our tribute to Women’s HERstory Month is Q4U from Iceland. 16 synthesizer-driven songs for any dance floor! The release date has been pushed back until April 22nd, for this title only Q4U was born the winter of 1980-1981 in Reykjavík, inspired by the British punk movement. It’s original members were Elínborg Halldórsdóttir (Ellý) (vocals), Berglind Garðarsdóttir (Linda) (vocals), Steinþór Stefánsson (guitar), Gunnþór Sigurðsson (bass), Helgi (drums) and Már (synthesizer). Helgi and Már soon left the band and Helgi was replaced by Kormákur Geirharðsson (Kommi) on the drums. By early 1982 they self-released a full length cassette, “Skaf Í Dag” and appeared in the documentary “Rokk í Reykjavík,” which showcased the Icelandic punk scene. This version of the band ended and only two members continued on. In the summer of 1982 Ellý and Gunnþór recruited Óðinn Guðbrandsson (guitar) and … READ MORE

Belaboris – Once Upon A Time LP

Continuing our tribute to Women’s HERstory Month in March, we are thrilled to re-issue a collection of songs by Finnish female Futu 5-piece, BELABORIS! Pre-orders will begin March 29th! Belaboris was born in 1982 as the brainchild of Finnish producer Kimmo Miettinen. What Malcolm McLaren had been to The Sex Pistols, Miettinen was to Belaboris. He would put together an all-girl band that looked great in photographs but were backed by professional musicians. The first line-up was Vilma Vainikainen on main vocals, Sisko Vainikainen and Rita on back-up plus Jake and Mari who did not sing at all. The backing band behind Belaboris was a local New Wave group called Tyhjät Patterit ( which translates to Empty Batteries). The main songwriter was Esa Ijäs (guitar, synthesizer) along with his bandmates Ari Ijäs (bass) and Martti Jalonen (drums). Belaboris’ debut 12″ single “Kuolleet Peilit” was released in November 1982. It was … READ MORE

Kitchen And The Plastic Spoons – Screams To God LP

We are excited to celebrate Women’s History Month in March with the complete discography of Swedish post-punk misfits, Kitchen And The Plastic Spoons on vinyl for the first time! Pre-orders will begin March 29th! Kitchen And The Plastic Spoons formed at a basement rehearsal studio in Stockholm, Sweden during the spring of 1980. The band consisted of Anne Taivan (vocals), Helena Lönnqvist (synthesizer), Iggo Karlsson (synthesizer), Jackie Pazda (bass), and Mats Wigerdal (drums). After a few concerts, Kitchen booked some free studio time and recorded their first single “Serve You!” in two days. Six months later Patrik Lindvall (guitar) joined the group and the band recorded their second single “Ice Cream To God” in early 1981. Kitchen’s sound was getting darker and heavier and so was the mood in the band. Anne shortly left and was replaced by Iodine Jupiter on vocals. This new line up recorded a few songs … READ MORE
