Portland-based house outfit the Miracles Club are behind the Ecstasy label, who gained notice for a 15-track sampler simply titled Ecstasy in 2012. The enterprise as a whole is a sharp diversion for label co-owner Honey Owens, who is perhaps best known for her part in the long-standing improvisational rock outfit Jackie-O Motherfucker, and for her Kranky-signed solo project Valet. Owens and her label partner Rafael Furia are set to release "That Magik" by San Francisco producer Brian Hock (aka C.L.A.W.S.) on March 12, a track that quickly gets lost in a mesmeric house groove and stays down there for almost seven minutes. There are other elements worked in-- trance-y synth patterns, TR-808 handclaps, a soulful vocal refrain-- that add a slick retro touch, giving "That Magik" the look and feel of a long lost cut exhumed from the Paradise Garage era.
