PACBI Statement

Dark Entries publicly commits to PACBI, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel.

Rooted in Palestinian civil society, launched and led by Palestinian academics and intellectuals, “PACBI was initiated in 2004 to contribute to the struggle for Palestinian freedom, justice and equality. It advocates for a boycott of Israeli academic and cultural institutions [not individuals] for their deep and persistent complicity in Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights that are stipulated in international law.”

“The cultural boycott of Israel should continue until Israel meets the three demands of the BDS call.“

Those demands are: the end of the military occupation, full equality, and the right of return for the Palestinian people.

BDS targets complicity, not identity. All Israeli cultural institutions are complicit and boycottable under PACBI. They can become non-boycottable by 1) ending all forms of complicity and 2) endorsing the rights of Palestinian people, including the right of return. Thus far, no Israeli cultural institutions have taken these two steps.
