Original 1979 Gay Freedom Day Button Pin. Issued for The Annual Gay Freedom Day Parade And Celebration in San Francisco , California on June 24, 1979. They are held each year in late June, around the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. The Stonewall, Inn, a gay bar and focal point of the riots as a result of a police raid, was made of brick, and this pin has a brick wall upon which the pin's message is written. The theme of the parade and celebration that year was " Our Time Has Come." Approximately 200,000 are estimated to have attended. Measures 2"
