Vintage 1979 Gay Freedom Day Button. Issued for The Annual Gay Freedom Day Parade And Celebration in San Francisco on June 24, 1979. Held each year in late June, around the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. The Stonewall, Inn, a gay bar and focal point of the riots as a result of a police raid, was made of brick, and this pin has a brick wall upon which the pin's message is written. The theme of the parade and celebration that year was " Our Time Has Come." Approximately 200,000 are estimated to have attended. Measures 2 inches round.
