Maasmechelen (Belgium) 1981; the birth of darkwave-industrial band portrait bizarre. after a year, being influenced by bands such as joy division and the cure, pb performs as opening act for bands as luna twist, the scabs, the neon judgement and de 2 belgen. in 1984 they’ve already become a regional icon. after the song ‘friends could be friends’ was selected by ludo camberlin (anything but records) for a spot on the compilation ‘no big business 2’, things went fast for the band. later that year the first (and only) 12” ‘heat up one moment’ was released, a 3-track with b-sides ‘the invitation’ and ‘ballad of the grave’ which all became classics in the underground-circuit. in 1985, after several line-up changes, the group split up because of musical differences. now, 30 years later, the band is back and after some rehearsals and a sold out concert in their hometown, portrait bizarre will present their new album ‘a new day’ in a limited edition of 520 hand-numbered copies, 180 gram vinyl, no re-press!!
