A Midwestern native who migrated to the warm Hawaiian Islands, Douglas Simonson co-authored and illustrated Hawaiian best-seller Pidgin to da Max before beginning a 40-plus year career in painting. Inspired by master figurative painters like Picasso, Matisse, Gauguin, he always aims to find visually exciting ways to express himself, and strives to be more daring and explosive in his work.
