Tra Special Comics is a Japanese anthology album released in February 1984, comprised of 15 tracks by 14 different artists as the soundtrack to a 150 page manga book. The concept of this release is: listen to the soundtrack while reading comics. All packaged in a crazy box that contains a 60-minute cassette in a tiger shaped pouch and a big book of illustrations, photos and comics. On the music side, a number of unique artists contributed to the album, including the ennui-pop of Minako Hojyo, the new wave madness of Yoshinori Toda of SPY fame, and the strange techno beats of Katsuya Kobayashi, plus an unreleased song by The Residents. Fantastic production values, although the design of the package (heavy book - lightweight box) has caused the box to lose a bit of its shape.
